Using Natural Disaster services in Map Viewers

Topics in this section:

Natural Disaster services are created in different phases:

Phase 1 - Active Natural Disaster event

The Restricted Active Natural Disaster image service is populated with everyday satellite imagery. Alongside this service is the Restricted Active Natural Disaster - Footprints (QGovDR) map service where First, Before and Last footprints are labelled with their dates.  If you cannot see these Restricted Active services and need access, please contact support.

Phase 2 - Post Event

a)      all projects are removed from the Active image service and are added to an Analytic or Optical time-series image service. Please note, sometimes during an event when the Active service gets overloaded and its performance is reduced, projects are moved to the time-series services.

b)     an 8-bit RGB mosaic image is created combining the imagery scenes from the Active image service over the affected areas into fire scar or flood peak projects which are added to an Optical time-series service

How to use the Natural Disaster services in a Map Viewer is described below.

Active Natural Disaster image service

In the Spatial Portal the Active image service resides in the Event & incident web services list in Spatial Portal.  In the Item Details choose Open in Map Viewer or add it to a Map Viewer that is already open.  Click on Modify Map and via Add to Search for Layers.   Use Show Table and its Options on the right to select a project, Center on Selection and Display Selected Images on Map. Make sure to zoom in to 0 – 6 km.

Natural Disaster Analytic QGov & All Users time-series image services

In the Spatial Portal the 16-bit Analytic time series services reside in the Imagery web services list.
Go to View All Group Content, in Filters choose Item Type Layers -> Imagery Layers and click on the ‘Queensland Imagery Natural Disaster Analytic Public Time-Series Service’. Open in Map Viewer or add it to a Map Viewer that is already open via Modify Map and Add, then Search for Layers.

Click the 3 dots to display more tools, then select Image Display.

In the Image Display option, make sure to apply a Standard Deviation stretch and tick the DRA box on the imagery layer, then Apply and Close to display the imagery properly. Please note that a False Colour function has been set by default and can be changed to the True Colour function in the Renderer dropdown list.

Open the  Show Table and select project.  Notice the IS_Latest field contains the Before, First,  Latest and All values which can be used for filtering.

Explore the functionality in the Options dropdown menu on the right in the Table, such as Show/hide columns, Center on Selection and Display Selected Images on Map:

Natural Disaster Optical QGov & All Userstime-series image services

In the Spatial Portal the Optical time series services also reside in the Imagery web services list, but they do not have the word Optical in the Title, but in the rest endpoint they do. In the Image Display no Renderer, stretch or DRA needs to be applied to these Optical services.
