What is happening?
The Department of Resources have released a new roads and tracks open data service: https://spatial-gis.information.qld.gov.au/arcgis/rest/services/Transportation/RoadsAndTracks/MapServer that utilises the Queensland Roads and Tracks (QRT) data. QRT data continues to also be available for download as open data in QSpatial and the Open Data Portal.
The new data set is more richly-attributed than the current Globe roads layer. The QRT is a digital vector representation of approximal road centrelines, updated daily. The data contains persistent road and segment identifiers, as well as attribution including street naming information, road classification, surface type, trafficability and road usage. It includes malls, busways, bikeways, walkways, tracks and ferries, as well as associated bridges, tunnels and green bridges. It is continually enhanced in collaboration with custodian agencies. New road centrelines are generated from the spatial cadastre and data provided by local and state Government.
When?
The QRT service is already available
The roads layers in Globe and GeoResGlobe will be switched over on 4 October
BRAT services will be shut down on 15 December 2023
What do I need to do?
Resave your maps containing the Road and Rail layer, which is probably a lot of maps as this is one of the default layers
Transition any existing usage of the BRAT services to the new QRT service
Contact us by return mail if you have any issues.
Detailed information about impacted services:
The QRT dataset replaces the Baseline Roads and Tracks (BRAT) dataset; BRAT data has not been updated since November 2022. Affected BRAT services will be retired on 15 December 2023.
