One of the features of QSpatial is that, for selected datasets, a user can define an area of interest over which they want to order data. This is referred to as the ‘extraction by area of interest’ method.
This factsheet has been developed as a guide to assist users to order data via this method.

  1. Search for the dataset (e.g., Property boundaries Queensland)

  2. Select Add to my list

3. On the QSpatial menu bar click on My list
4. A page will open displaying the datasets you have saved into the My list
5. If you want to extract by area of interest, click the View/extract in map button

6. On the next screen under Extractable data click on the ‘map visualization tool’ (crossed out eye)

and the ‘include in extract’ (square).

When selected the eye will turn yellow and the square green. The number of datasets in My list will

now show the number selected, i.e., 1.

7. Next select Extract/download

8. At this point you can choose to download the
entire dataset by leaving All selected or you
can Choose an area.
9. By selecting Choose an area three options become available:

a. LGA – this option allows you to clip the data to Local Government areas as defined by the Local Government Area dataset
b. City/Suburb - this option allows you to clip the data to Locality areas as defined by the Locality areas dataset
c. Custom – allows you to define the clipped area. You can choose to clip based on a rectangle, circle, freehand or polygon.

10. For this example, select LGA

11. Next, choose an LGA suitable to your needs (e.g., Aurukun Shire)
12. Select your preferred output format
a. File Geodatabase
b. Shapefile
c. MapInfo tab
d. Google Earth KML
13. Select your output projection or leave ‘as stored’
14. Enter your email address (check it is correct before proceeding)
15. Check the box beside “I accept the terms and conditions”
16. Click on Extract/Download
17. You will receive an email that contains a link to download your clipped dataset.
