About spatial data - Type of spatial data

QSpatial gives users search functions and access tools to view coverage, and download geospatial data and information.

Searching this extensive repository, - you can discover, display, select and download spatial data over an area of interest. The data you download can be in a selected format, or a pre-packaged format including map coverage data, image data and text file data.

QSpatial includes data from 11 participating Queensland Government agencies and displays metadata about downloadable data, either extracted on the fly or pre-packaged, available web map services, as well as information about offline resources.


About spatial data - Viewing spatial data

QSpatial is used by:

  • spatial professionals

  • government (including local government) spatial information officers

  • researchers

  • students, and

  • anyone who is interested in finding out about spatial information resources in Queensland.

In most cases, to view the spatial data downloaded from QSpatial you will need access to Geographic Information System (GIS) software. If you don't have access to GIS software, view the Departments other mapping, data and imagery services at https://www.business.qld.gov.au/running-business/support-assistance/mapping-data-imagery

Each spatial dataset within QSpatial will have an attached metadata statement. This metadata statement holds a wealth of extra information specific to the dataset - including quality, coverage, accuracy and a point of contact email if you require more information.
