As part of the department’s transition to the cloud, end-of-life infrastructure hosted on-premises is being shut down. This process involves a transition from using services hosted on-premises to services hosted in the cloud.
The department offers many open-data spatial services via a variety of protocols via its on-premises infrastructure. It is the department’s intention to provide like-for-like replacement services where possible, with functionality as near-to-identical as possible. However, due to underlying platform changes, slight differences in certain aspects are unavoidable. As such, it is strongly recommended that transitioning usage of services be undertaken as a proactive activity, to allow time for adequate testing.
Below is a list of open-data services provided by the department for which the on-premises versions have now been deprecated, with a shutdown date provided, along with replacement service URLs, and any associated information.

Open data service deprecation
Due to the release of the new Queensland Digital Topographic data schema, the following services have been marked for deprecation on 30 June 2025. These are cached services and have not been updated for over 5 years. New map and vector tile services have replaced these and display current data. Please ensure to update all repositories and applications that utilise the below services.

Release of Vector Tile Basemaps
The Queensland Government has released a new range of vector tile basemaps. These will replace the current raster tile basemaps which will deprecated by the end of 2024. New service URL’s are as follows:

Why the change
Over time, the existing raster basemaps have become increasingly cumbersome to produce, in both human and technical resources, resulting in outdated spatial data being displayed. Moving basemap production to vector tile technology allows a far quicker and less involved method of production, allowing them to be updated more frequently. This shift mirrors industry trends and has improved printing capability.
What you need to do
In your mapping applications, change to the new vector basemaps from a new REST endpoints here.
Qld Globe and GeoResGlobe users need to resave or add the new vector basemaps to saved map.
Spatial Portal, QPortal and QSpatial Live users will need to look for the new vector basemaps.
