Measures the vertical distances and the shape of the Earth and its features in relation to a reference surface (datum)

AUXILLARY CONTOUR

Definition: – An additional contour used to aid relief interpretation over flatter or unique terrain, usually half the standard contour interval. The chosen values are of equal elevation above the Australian Height Datum.

Alternate Terms: Supplementary Contour

  • Capture as a 3D polyline along the feature

  • Capture at an elevation of 2.5 metres above the Australian Height Datum

  • Capture by directly digitised from orthorectified imagery using specialist 3D terrain model interpretation software or scan and digitise from existing mapping and adding the height as a third dimension (Z).

INDEX CONTOUR

Definition: Being every fifth Intermediate Contour - classified as Feature Type “Index Contour” e.g., elevation values of 5m, 25m, 50m, 75m

Alternate Terms: Major Contour

  • Capture as a 3D polyline along the feature

  • Capture with a contour interval of 5 metre

  • Being every fifth Intermediate Contour - classified as Feature Type “Index Contour” e.g., elevation values of 5m, 25m, 50m, 75m.

INTERMEDIATE CONTOUR

Definition: Representing an imaginary line on the ground joining points of equal elevation above the Australian Height Datum, showing increasing and decreasing elevation values at 5 metre intervals.

Alternate Terms: Basic Contour

  • Capture as a 3D polyline along the feature

  • Capture with a contour interval of 5 metre

  • Capture by directly digitised from orthorectified imagery using specialist 3D terrain model interpretation software or scan and digitise from existing mapping and adding the height as a third dimension (Z).

INDEX IMPERIAL CONTOUR

Definition: Being every fifth Intermediate Imperial Contour - classified as Feature Type “Index Imperial Contour”

Alternate Terms:

  • Elevations were originally captured in feet and converted to the nearest metre.

  • Being every fifth Intermediate Imperial Contour captured by the appropriate process - classified as Feature Type “Index Imperial Contour”.

INTERMEDIATE IMPERIAL CONTOUR

Definition: Representing an imaginary line on the ground joining points of equal elevation above the Australian Height Datum, showing increasing and decreasing elevation values at 5 metre intervals. These elevations were originally captured in feet and converted to the nearest metre.

Alternate Terms:

  • Elevations were originally captured in feet and converted to the nearest metre.

  • Capture as a 3D polyline along the feature

  • Capture by directly digitised from orthorectified imagery using specialist 3D terrain model interpretation software or scan and digitise from existing mapping and adding the height as a third dimension (Z).

Contour 10 Metre

A linear feature class, representing an imaginary line on the ground joining points with a regular 10 metre elevation in relation to the Australian Height Datum across the State of Queensland.
