COURT

Definition: An area marked on the ground that is used for playing sport such as tennis or netball.

Alternate Terms:

  •          Capture the marked playing area as a 2D polygon

  •          The playing area is plotted from orthorectified imagery

  •          Many courts will have an extended apron around the marked playing area, this is not included

  •          Where multiple courts adjoin each other in the same complex, merge into a single multi-polygon

  •          When converted to a multi-polygon, in the Text Note field, type in the function as a plural e.g., tennis courts, netball courts.

  •          Locations can be obtained from other datasets, existing mapping, address details, tourist publications, organisations, Local Government websites, or other source material.

OVAL

Definition: A field on which sporting activities are carried out.

Alternate Terms: Athletic field, Sports field

  •          Capture the marked playing area as a 2D polygon

  •          The playing area is plotted from orthorectified imagery

  •          Many ovals will have an extended apron around the marked playing area, this is not included

  •          When constructing a round or elliptical sports field, create the feature using either circle or ellipse

  •          Convert the circle or ellipse to a polygon. Select the feature, hit on the Generalize command in ARC.

  •          In the Maximum allowable offset: dialog box, type 0.5.

  •          Where multiple ovals are in close proximately, they can merge into a single multi-polygon if appropriate

  •          When converted to a multi-polygon, in the Text Note field, type in the function as a plural e.g., cricket ovals, football fields, sports fields

  •          Locations can be obtained from other datasets, existing mapping, address details, tourist publications, organisations, Local Government websites, or other source material.

RACETRACK AREA

Definition: A course laid out for racing

Alternate Terms:

  •          Capture the general outline of the inside and outside rails or edge of the race surface as a 2D holey polygon

  •          The location is plotted from orthorectified imagery

  •          If the racecourse is for racing horses and is located within a Feature Type “Racecourse Area”, do not type “horse” in the Text Note field.

  •          Locations can be obtained from other datasets, existing mapping, address details, tourist publications, organisations, Local Government websites, or other source material.

RODEO

Definition: An arena where people compete at riding and catching horses and cattle.

Alternate Terms:

  •          Capture the general outline as a 2D polygon coincident with the safety barrier

  •          Locations can be obtained from other datasets, existing mapping, address details, tourist publications, organisations, Local Government websites, or other source material.

SKATEBOARD PARK

Definition: An area where skateboards are ridden over and around constructed ramps and obstacles.

Alternate Terms: Skate bowl, Skatepark, Skate ramp

  •          Capture the feature as a 2D polygon coincident with the edge of the concrete

  •          The location is plotted from orthorectified imagery

  •          Locations can be obtained from other datasets, existing mapping, address details, tourist publications, organisations, Local Government websites, or other source material.

VEOLDROME

Definition: An arena for track cycling featuring a steeply banked oval track.

Alternate Terms:

  •          Capture as a 2D holey polygon coincident with the edge of the track

  •          Capture the general outline of the inside and outside rails or edge of the race surface

  •          The location is plotted from orthorectified imagery

  •          Locations can be obtained from other datasets, existing mapping, address details, tourist publications, organisations, Local Government websites, or other source material.

The name of the feature (if available)

ATTRIBUTE_SOURCE

No

Text

100

If the feature is named, the attribute_source is the source imagery, map, or data from which the features name has been obtained.

If the feature is not named, the attribute_source is the source imagery, map, or data used to define what the feature type is.

Date

Date of the source imagery, map, or data used for attributing the feature.

ADDITIONAL_NAMES

A Persistent Feature Identifier (PFI) is generated for each feature at the point of creation in the database. The value of the PFI will stay with the feature through all changes to the feature (both spatial and non-spatial) until the feature is retired. (See Persistent and Unique Feature Identifiers)

UFI

No

Text

A Unique Feature Identifier (UFI) is generated for each new feature at the point of creation in the database (at this point the PFI and UFI will be the same). The value of the UFI will stay with the feature through all changes to the feature (both spatial and non-spatial) unless the feature is split into multiple other parts. If the feature is split, the separate parts will retain the original PFI but new UFI’s will be generated for the split parts. (See Persistent and Unique Feature Identifiers)
